Q&A

Project questions

Good to know.

Is the Creative Hub already open?

The Creative Hub is still in planning and is not yet open. There is no confirmed opening date. Follow the project timeline and News page for updates.

Who is the project for?

Local young adults and creatives are at the heart of the project. Children and teenagers should have access to free community activities. International guests and professionals can contribute to cultural exchange and financial sustainability.

Can I donate or book a stay yet?

Donations and bookings are not currently available through this website. The financial plan and fundraising concept are still being developed. Specific support options will be shared as the project progresses.

Where will the Creative Hub be located?

The planned Hub is in Shungi, on the southeast coast of Unguja, Zanzibar. It aims to serve young people and creatives from Shungi, Jambiani, Makunduchi and neighbouring communities.

What has happened so far?

The land was purchased in October 2025, excess vegetation was cleared in March 2026, and electricity was connected on 3 September 2026. Community interviews and a social survey are being conducted in October 2026. Read the latest project updates.

Why are you conducting a social survey?

We want to understand local needs before developing the Hub’s programmes. The interviews ask what people want to learn, what prevents them from developing their talents, and what would make a community centre useful to them.

Whose perspectives does the survey seek to include?

The interview guide calls for a range of perspectives, including young unemployed people, small business owners, women and men, and mothers with children. It also suggests speaking with visitors who might be interested in volunteering. These are research goals, rather than a statement of completed participation.

What do you ask people in the interviews?

We ask about creative skills they would like to develop, barriers they face, how they would use internet access and creative equipment, and which training interests them. We also ask what could help them earn an income through creativity and how the community could contribute to the Hub.

Are the programmes already decided?

The programme areas are a starting point. Activities will be developed step by step around local needs, with the survey helping to inform the planning.

What skills could people learn at the Hub?

Planned areas include photography, video, graphic design, music, digital marketing, social media and business skills. Practical projects and mentoring could help participants explore professional opportunities and self-employment.

What facilities are planned?

The vision includes shared learning and working spaces, computers, internet access and creative equipment. Natural ventilation, shade, and reliable water and energy are key planning goals. The detailed architectural plans are still being developed.

Who is involved locally?

Zanzibar Vibrations is being developed with the local NGO Up with Community. The partner is intended to lead long-term operations and programmes on the ground. Architects are developing the plans together with local fundis, drawing on local building knowledge and expertise.

How will the Hub support itself over time?

The plan is for income from co-working services, accommodation and events to help cover running and maintenance costs and support community programmes. The financial plan is scheduled for November 2026; the funding model is still being developed.

Can I volunteer or contribute my skills?

Future opportunities may include technical support, digital education, creative workshops and mentoring, guided by community needs. If you have relevant experience or would like to explore a partnership, contact us to start a conversation.

What are the next steps?

Architectural planning begins in October 2026, alongside community research. The financial plan is scheduled for November 2026, with the fundraising concept being developed from November. Further steps will depend on the planning and funding process.
